Stage2 is an alternative [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware firmware] for [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_Technology KiSS]  [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvd_player DVD players] that makes the player better and fills it with much more cool stuff then the original firmware has. It is based on the original firmware and still uses parts of it.

It all started when [http://www.mpcclub.com/wiki/index.php/User:Martinb MartinB] in 2005 got a DP-558 player and ended up being disappointed. That led to a community development of Stage2 firmware.
