Sometimes KiSS won't play a file or playback are destorted in some way.
That can be caused by a lot of different incompabilities, See File formats, bad encoding and errors in the file.
Here are som common problems:

Video sound out of sync

On recordings

Problems with the picture not being synchronized with the sound in the recordings on DP-558, is a known software problem.

KISS (LINKSYS) says that some of their best developers are on fixing the problem.

The problem can be different from DVD player to DVD player, and is partly also depending on the TV signal you get.

On compressed files from other sources

When a file is compressed, sound and video can get out of sync for a number or reasons, if its not done properly: It can have the wrong offset in the beginning. Fix:

Consecutive B-frames (B-VOB)

Symptom:

The video freezes at some point in the playback. Always at the same spot. You can search to a position beyond and continue playback until the next occurrence.

Reason:

KiSS can only handle one B-frame at a time, where as many programs can handle two or more Consecutive B-frames.

Fix:

(.avi files only)

  • Open the file with mpeg4modifier
  • if it reads "packed bitstream: Yes" put a tick in the unpack box.
  • Save the file with a new name
  • Test the new file before deleting the old.

Packed bitstream in XVID

Symptom:


Reason:

KiSS can only handle unpacked bitstream audio.

Fix:

(.avi files only)

  • Open the file with mpeg4modifier

  • Save the file with a new name
  • Test the new file before deleting the old.
