FAQ
FAQ A[edit]
I think this software is crap, how to get rid of this "virus"[edit]
Just reflash your player with a original firmware and erase the /hdd/stage2 directory with ftp
How did you do the trick of putting all those files on my harddisk?[edit]
I modified the /etc/bootstart, this will launch a program called "stage2". This file looks for the existents of the file /hdd/stage2/initscript. If this exist it will execute the file. When it not exist it will start a hushshell from the /bin/setup.init.
This will download a file from a web server named download.init. And this file will be executed. (And just use wget to download the parts)
Can you fix some bugs with ff/rw/playback?[edit]
No, this software can't fix, its just ad-on. Sometimes is possible to have a workaround but that just depend of the problem
How is the directory structure?[edit]
/hdd/stage2 is the main directory. It contains ./bin ./htmlroot ./img. ./snd The img contains some backgrounds. The ./snd is for some little sound samples. The others are obvious
How do I change the background?[edit]
Just look at the CGI: menu, you will find some links
what is the use of the tclsh file?[edit]
TCL is a scripting language. With this file you can write some complex scripting.
I don't use it but I think I will in the future
What is the use of the sed file?[edit]
Sed is a command line tool for scripting. I think it will be useful in the future
What is the use of the gawk file?[edit]
gawk is a command line tool for scripting. I think it will be useful in the future
This software does not work when the kiss is recording?[edit]
Don't blame this software. The reason for this is that the kissplayer is shutting down the Ethernet as soon as recording is started. I don't think its possible to change that. The software is still running but you just can't connect to the kiss at that point
What if I F##ked up the initstage2f/h file ?[edit]
No panic, restart your player in failsafe mode. Telnet to the player and fix the initstage2f/h file .
Will this software harm my player?[edit]
No
Will this software harm my warranty?[edit]
No, just reflash with original firmware, and format hard disk if you want to get rid of it
Will this software slow down my kiss-player?[edit]
No and Yes. As long as you dont start telnet,nbd-server and httpd together then it's ok. This is more a problem af the telnetd than the httpd module
If you find some different behaviour on playback with ONLY httpd enabled please let me know[edit]
I can not format my kiss anymore, what do I wrong?
If the httpd is running (by default) it will prevent the harddisk to dismount.[edit]
Simplest way to format is: telnet to the kiss, Type "killall httpd" type "exit" and now it will work
I found a bug, how to report?[edit]
Send me an email at [email protected]
And please provide me information on how to reproduce it, and info about the player (revision)
I demand you to write the following add-in, and I want it NOW![edit]
No, I don't think so. If you want, just write it yourself.
Can you please write the following add-in?[edit]
Just ask me, I'm not that great in programming course I only use Linux from December 2004 and have a hell of a lot to learn. Also I have very little spare time.
How can I help?[edit]
Take a good look at the parts you can improve and please contact me so we don't do things twice.
How can I contact you?[edit]
Send me an email at [email protected]
FAQ B[edit]
What is the difference between the R_A and R_B version[edit]
The first public release was 100% original kiss firmware, so with the FTP but, This version is a mix of the old kernel so your FTP problem is solved
What about the C version?[edit]
The C version was tested a lot, but it turned out that this will break more than it fix, so forget about the C version
But I really want the C version, course this would fix the OOS[edit]
No the C version will NOT fix the OOS
But the C version fix the audio drops ![edit]
If you really want this one, send me a PM but remember this one will give you other problems like: scart signaling problems,
Were is the link?[edit]
If the link is gone, look at the downloads on the left side
