One of the first things to do, is to check that you have the latest Firmware. If not, you should update it. There are a lot of software glitches in this product and some of them might have been fixed.

If you are the lucky owner of a DP-558 you also have the option to install the much improved hack, called "Stage2" By Martinb.

Check your current FW version

When you enter the “setup menu” the FW version are displayed in the top right corner. Go to the support site and check the latest version. Currently its http://www.kiss-technology.com The pages are constantly changing at the moment, so you will have to search the site to find the right download. If anything goes wrong during update, have a look at Firmware flash problems


Firmware upgrade procedures for Linksys KiSS players

For all Kiss players except (DP-600 & KISS 1600 ) follow this procedure :

First download the update from the linksys website

Unpack the .zip file and save the .iso file.

Burn a new CD from the ISO image.
Use the free isorecorder or Nero Burning 
Make sure that you burn at max x8 speed, No Multi-session, and finalize!
(Minimum burning speed recommended for avoiding errors during burning the firmware to the disc)

Put the new CD into the player and turn it off

wait 15-20 sec. and turn it on again
Now BOOTING should be written in the display.'

When you get a picture on the screen, choose FULL update!

When the update is finished, the tray will come out.

Take the update CD out, and restart the player. ON/OFF or (pull out the power plug behind the player and put it back)

For DP-600:

Firmware update via the menu utility is the option that is recommended. The other option (via a CD should be opted only for situations when the menu option is not available.)

You simply need to go to the setup menu and then to the miscellaneous option. Please check for the updates for the player and click on update.

If your player already has the latest firmware then you need to follow the procedure mentioned below, so that the firmware version on the player is neutralized and the online update is recognized by the player.

Press down the Default button while holding the key 9 on the remote. Enter the code as ‘98765432’ (feature) to reset (or neutralize) the firmware version on the player.

Please note that sometimes, at the end of the process (after the last power cycle) the player gets stuck on “Please wait”. Just wait for 5 minutes and they power cycle it again.

Update via a CD for DP-600

- First download the update from our website: http://www.kiss-technology.com/?p=hot_news&v=users - Unpack the .zip file. - Now you have an .iso file - Open Nero Burning Rom and burn the .iso file as an image. - Make sure that you burn at max x8 speed, No Multi-session, and finalize!

Put the CD in the player. Switch OFF the player from the ON/OFF switch at the back panel. Switch ON the player from the ON/OFF switch at the back panel. Press the Default button at the back panel of the player and keep it down. Turn ON the player with the remote or the STOP button on the player Keep the Default button down until the “Please Wait” disappears.

Please note that sometimes, at the end of the process (after the last power cycle) the player gets stuck on “Please wait”. Just wait for 5 minutes and they power cycle it again.

To update the DP600 to KNAS firmware :

1. Turn on the unit with the ON/OFF button (on the back panel)

2. Open the tray, and insert the update CD without closing the tray

3. Turn off the unit with the ON/OFF button (on the back panel)

4. Press the Default button on the back of the unit

5. Turn on the unit with the ON/OFF button, keep the default button pressed,and press the STOP button on the front panel of the player (the tray closes and PLEASE WAIT appears on the display)

6. Stop pressing the Default button 30 seconds after clicking on the Standby button.

Now the player will update to the image burned on the cd and this will take around 5 min, Please do not turn off the unit while it is updating as it will harm the player.

The CD will be ejected when the update is finished. Remove it and Turn OFF/Turn ON the player using the ON/OFF button. Click one time on the Standby button and go through the Quick Setup.

You can now enjoy the full quality of the DP-600 Version 2!

NB- If the units ejects the cd before updating, please try again.
