EDITING UNPLAYABLE FILES

Xvid with Packed Bit Streams

Most commonly this is related to Xvid codec's.

The XviD 1.1 codec is supported, but we see that most of the XviD 1.1 files use packed bit streams, and this is not (and will not) be supported by the players.

You can use MPEG4 Modifier from http://moitah.net/ to see if the file used packed bit stream or not. You can also see this if you use GSPOT (beta only), and it should have [USER] DivX***b***p and the last p indicates that it use Packed bit streams.

You can use GSPOT to analyze the files. It’s a freeware available on the internet at the following link: http://headbands.com/gspot/gspot252dl.html

If you notice that it uses packed bit stream, then kindly follow this procedure:

You can use a program called MPEG4 Modifier: http://www.moitah.net/ (1) Make a copy of the file, so you don't edit the original, until you are sure that the edited file works. (2) Edited the codec details from xxxbxxxp (x=various numbers) to 999b000p and save. (3) Test the new file.

It should work now.

Unknown 4CC

FourCC is not a codec but the header (containing data) of all the DivX/XviD. When you have this message on the TV:

1. There is a failure in the FourCC. It could be because of following reasons: - Error in the file: You can use Virtual Dub to correct them (It’s a freeware available on the internet at the following link: www.virtualdub.org). by making a “Direct stream copy” of the sound and video - Burning speed too high: Burn the disc at a lower speed to correct it.

2. The resolution is too high. (PAL 720X576) 3. The codec is unknown (so the FourCC is unknown); you can use GSPOT to analyze the file. (GSPOT is a freeware available on the internet at the following link: http://headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.htm)

DivX/XviD jumps/jerks and freezes

Please try making a direct stream copy in virtual dub. In most cases this solves this problem. You can get virtual dub here www.virtualdub.org You can get codec’s here www.divx-digest.com

Open the file in virtual dub and select:

Audio/Direct stream copy Video/Direct stream copy

Then select FILE and save as AVI This corrects the errors that might be in the file and it should solve the problem. You can also recode the whole file to another codec if you want.
